Chrislands FAQ

Page history last edited by DeWayne White 6 months, 1 week ago

This page contains a set of frequently asked questions from the Chrislands hosted forum as well as a repeat of some of the Administrative information available. The questions are in random order. As the list of questions and answers becomes larger, it may, at some point, even become more organized.

  1. How do you change the email address where the orders are sent from on the Chrislands website? De at White Unicorn Books

    The first page in your store administration will have an "Edit Store Info" link in the left hand menu. Click on the link. One of the last fields on the "Store Information" page provides the ability to change the store email address.

  2. How do you manage your email accounts?

    You can manage your store email accounts by logging in to your store administration and then clicking on the "Email Administration" link in the left column of the first page in your store administration. Note that your login password to "Email Administration" may be different thatn you regular Administrative login password.

  3. How do you add a lot of HTML with the WYSIWYG editor via a copy and paste?

    ( i)This should work but, if you are familiar with HTML you may just want to use the HTML editor. Also, a little more complicated way follows these instructions if this doesn't work for you.

    Log in to your own website and click on Administration. Select from the pages on the left that you want to insert the text and double click on it. It should automatically open for edit with the WYSIWYG edit. If you want to delete anything in the page, hi-lite it and hit the delete key.

    Go to the web page which has the text you want. Select what you want to add by hi-liting what you want to copy.

    Either right click and select "copy" or hit Ctrl-c (keyboard function for copy).

    Next, go back to your page, click where you want to copy your text and either right click and select "paste" or hit Ctrl-v (keyboard function for paste).

    Click on Preview (which opens another window which you will have to close in order to continue) and then Save if you are happy with the page.

    You are finished.

    If you are familiar with html, then just go down to the HTML Source button and and click on that. Your are then in a regular text editor.

    If you are not too familiar with html, then I believe the easiest way to do this is, first mark an area where you want to add the code in the WYSIWYG mode and then in the HTML Source mode do the cut and paste. To demonstrate this I'll use a (very short) Chrislands link list. Suppose you already have a list up and want to also delete that. Assume the list looks like

    Other Chrislands Stores

    A Store with descriptions

    While in the WYSIWYG mode go in and put a bunch of equal signs above and below the list so it looks like

    =========================

    Other Chrislands Stores

    A Store with descriptions

    =========================

    Still in the WYSIWYG mode, delete everything between the two equal sign lines so you have

    =========================

    =========================

    Now scroll down to the bottom and click on the button HTML Source. Find the two lines of equal signs, you might have to scroll down to do it. Put your cursor at the end of the first equal sign line and hit the enter key. This will put a blank line between the the two lines.

    =========================

    =========================

    Go to your other file and copy the list, i.e. highlight the entire list, hold down the control (Ctrl) key and tap the c key. Go back to editing your site. The flashing cursor should be between the two lines. If not, click on the blank line between the two lines of equal signs. Paste, i.e. hold down the control (Ctrl) key and tap the v key.

    Scroll down toward the bottom and click on the Preview button. This should open a new tab (or window) so you can look at the changes. If it looks o.k. go back to the editor tab (page) and delete the two equal sign lines, scroll down and click save. If it doesn't look o.k., you can scroll up to the top and click on the Store link (in the second line) and start all over again.

    If you know of a better way, why don't you write it up?

  4. It gets difficult to read the Yahoo Chrislands digest when I have to navigate past original messages to the current reply. What is the best way to send replies to the Chrislands digest from my local e-mail program? Joyce at AgelessPages.com

    (a) First, change your local e-mail mailing program so that it omits original messages in your reply. This example is for Microsoft Outlook Express, but other programs may have a similar setup: Choose Tools/Options from the main menu in your e-mail program. (Do not do this from within your reply message, do it in your main mailbox). Click on Send tab. This takes you to the header "Sending", below which are checkbox options.   Uncheck the "include message with reply" option. Your reply message will now show to the group without the original messages from members, etc.

    (b) Next, copy and paste a small amount of the previous message and place it above your reply. This makes it more convenient for other readers to see what you responding to. You can show the original message this way: Write 1) the name of the original sender, 2) their e-mail address, then  3)"wrote:... ORIGINAL MESSAGE HERE..." Example:

    Larry's Books  <Larr@books.com>  wrote:...a web site wants to list me in their links...

    Begin your reply message a line or two below this.

  5. PUT YOUR QUESTION (AND LINK TO YOUR SITE) HERE.

    PUT YOUR ANSWER HERE
